Complex Systems: Biology


Organisms and their associations (cells, tissues, animals, societies, ecosystems, etc.) are prime examples of complex systems being, among other things, complex adaptive systems, as well as self-organized, and far-from-equilibrium thermodynamic systems. Complexity theories have being applied to the explanation of the origin of life, biological evolution, the structure of food webs and hierarchical organizations, and many other biological topics.
